The Hunger Games movie review

OK, I wrote this in March. Let me know that you think!

Review of The Hunger Games

142 minutes of non-stop excitement, action and hunger

It’s finally here. The movie that we have all been waiting for. I waited at the cinema with my heart beating fast and my adrenaline pumping. I have been a fan of The Hunger Games ever since I read the books. The Hunger Games is based on a futuristic themed trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The first book is The Hunger Games, the second one is Catching Fire and the third one is Mockingjay. I have read all of the books in the series. When the movie began I started to get emotional; because I was seeing an adaption of one of my favorite books.

The story is about a country called Panem; a country built in the ruins of North America. Panem is split into 13 districts. 75 years ago, the 13 districts rebelled against the Capitol. This was called the Dark Days. The Capitol managed to stop the rebellion in the end. After the rebellion ended District 13 was destroyed; so there are only 12 districts left. As a punishment and reminder that the Capitol is still in charge they send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen from each of the twelve districts to fight in a televised show called The Hunger Games. The tributes from each district must fight to the death until only one remains standing.

The story is mainly about sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen. She lives in District 12, the poorest district in Panem. She decides to take her sister’s place to represent Disctrict 12 along with Peeta Melark in the 74th Annual Hunger Games. Katniss is potrayed by Jennifer Lawrence, who got an Oscar nomination for Winter’s Bone. I think that Jennifer Lawrence potrayed Katniss really well. She’s such an amazing actress. No wonder she got an Oscar nomination! She gives such a strong performance as Katniss. She made the character more likable and believable. I heard that she was a fan of the series before she landed the role of Katniss. It’s a good thing because Jennifer knows about her character really well before she got the role. Josh Hutcherson also plays in this movie; where he potrays Peeta Melark.

Josh was perfect for Peeta. He is also a fan of the series. He says that he read the whole series in five days! So he also knew about his character really well. This movie was very fast paced and epic. The special effects were unbelievable; especially the Tribute Parade! Although I wasn’t very impressed about the CGI fire in Katniss and Peeta’s costume. The actors and actresses did an amazing job at potraying their characters; especially Woody Harelson who potrayed Haymitch in the movie. He sure knows how to play the role of the drunken mentor! I was also impressed at Stanley Tucci, who potrays the role of Caesar Flickerman. I have only seen him in two movies; which are The Lovely Bones and Captain America. Stanley definitely made Caesar likable and believable; like Jennifer did as Katniss. The scene that got me shocked, frozen and holding my breath in my seat was definitely the Bloodbath/Curnocopia scene. It was just like how I imagined it when I was reading the book. A lot of violence, blood and killing. Everyone in the cinema seemed to stop at what they were doing and just stared at the screen; speechless. A scene that got me crying a river was of course, Rue’s death. I can easily cry if there is a sad part in movies. I cried on the whole scene of Rue’s death. It was the saddest scene in the movie.

The big dissapointment in this movie for me is that there is no Madge. She was the one who gave Katniss the Mockingjay pin before Katniss leaves to go to the Capitol. Instead Katniss gives it to Prim and then Prim gives it back to Katniss when saying goodbye before Katniss leaves to go to the Capitol. But overall, I enjoyed the movie. The music added in the movie really added some tension into the scenes.

This movie definitely makes us hungry for more.  I’m very excited to see how the sequel Catching Fire will turn out.

Countdown to The Mortal Instruments!

The Mortal Instruments is one of my favorite book series and when I found out that the Mortal Instruments is being turned into a movie, I was excited, but at the same time I was worried to see if they were going to ruin it like I Am Number Four. Hopefully they won’t. And Simon has been casted! He’s going to be played by Robert Sheehan. I didn’t imagine him in the book but he looks like he’s going to potray the role very well. Also there were a lot of casting announcements, including the roles of Jocelyn Fray, Blackwell, Pangborn, Hodge Starkweather, Isabelle Lightwood and Magnus Bane. Now all I have to do is wait to see who is casted for Valentine, Luke, Max, Alec, Raphael……There are still many more characters to be casted! I’m excited for The Mortal Instruments! I’m still waiting to get City of Lost Souls!

I just watched Deathly Hallows Part 2 (again)

I watched it again to celebrate first anniversary of the release of Deathly Hallows Part 2 in the cinema. I have watched this movie a hundred times and read the book a hundred times and I still cried in the Nineteen Years Later scene and when Fred, Remus and Tonks died. The scene just broke my heart. I try not to cry but it’s impossible to hold my tears and to stop my heart from breaking. I think I might have a Potter Depression for a long time.

The Amazing Spider-Man is…..

I’m just gonna answer by the movie title. Truly amazing! One of the best movies of 2012! Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were such great actors! I definitely love the new version of Spider-Man! Andrew Garfield potrayed Peter Parker very well! I really want to see it again! SPOILER! I cried when Peter gave Aunt May the eggs :’(

The Hunger Games head cannon!

This is a head cannon that I wrote. Enjoy!

The daughter once found a tape labeled “The 74th Annual Hunger Games” in the attic. She was meant to stay out of the attic but she couldn’t resist. The daughter asked her little brother if he wanted to see their parents when they were young. The daughter’s brother agreed. So she popped the tape on the television and saw a lot of oddly dressed people in the crowd. They started clapping as the chariots came into view. And the daughter saw them.

Her parents.

Their costumes were on fire and they didn’t seem to care. The daughter wondered if the fire was part of their costume. The daughter’s parents got the most cheer and the daughter can agree with them that her parent’s costume was indeed the best. The next scene was the interviews. The daughter saw all of the tribute’s interviews. The daughter saw her mother in a red dress that is engulfed in tounges of fire. Fire was indeed part of the costume, the daughter thought. Her mother spun around, making fire dance around her dress. The man with the blue hair who sat beside her started to talk about her score.

“E-le-ven”, the man with the blue hair had said. Then her father came next. The daughter wondered why her father asked the man with the blue hair if he smelt like roses. They took turns sniffing each other. The daughter wrinkled her nose. Then her father confessed his love to a girl that had came with him. Her mother. The daughter heard footsteps from behind, so she tried to grab the remote, but her mother’s voice stopped her from reaching it.

“Where did you get that?” her mother asked.

The daughter sighed before answering. “The attic”.

Her mother crossed her arms. “You know you’re not supposed to go in the attic”.

“I know. I’m sorry”, the daughter said.

“Why don’t you go get your father and we will watch it together?”

The daughter was shocked. She didn’t expect that kind of answer from her mother. So she nodded and went outside to where her father was. He was sketching; his blond hair dancing with the wild wind.

“Father”, the daughter said, “mother wants us to watch a tape together”.

Her father grabbed his sketchpad and went into the living room, where the daughter’s mother and the daughter’s little brother were already seated.

“What’s this sweetheart?” the father asked.

“It’s an old tape”, the mother replied.

So they watched every part of the tape. After they had finished, the daughter asked her parents about everything they had been through; from the Hunger Games, the Rebellion, the war, even to her parents’ friends and siblings. The parents answered everything patiently. The daughter’s parents were none other than the victors of the 74th Annual Hunger Games.

Welcome to my blog! I have a lot of things to share but I don’t have much time because of school and all that stuff. Where should we start? Well…..I love Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, The Mortal Instruments and Perks of Being a Wallflower. My favorite book from Harry Potter would have to be Half-Blood Prince. From The Hunger Games my favorite would be Catching Fire. I don’t really know my favorite from The Mortal Instruments yet because I am just up to City of Glass. I got sorted into Slytherin on Pottermore. Funny fact: when my sister and I signed up on Pottermore, we chose which house we wanted to go to. I wanted to go to Ravenclaw while my sister wanted to go to Slytherin. When we got sorted, I ended up in Slytherin while my sister ended up in Ravenclaw. Oh well, Slytherin is on the lead for house points! Proud to be a Slytherin! Hope that we will win The inaugural Pottermore House Cup!
