This is a head cannon that I wrote. Enjoy!
The daughter once found a tape labeled “The 74th Annual Hunger Games” in the attic. She was meant to stay out of the attic but she couldn’t resist. The daughter asked her little brother if he wanted to see their parents when they were young. The daughter’s brother agreed. So she popped the tape on the television and saw a lot of oddly dressed people in the crowd. They started clapping as the chariots came into view. And the daughter saw them.
Their costumes were on fire and they didn’t seem to care. The daughter wondered if the fire was part of their costume. The daughter’s parents got the most cheer and the daughter can agree with them that her parent’s costume was indeed the best. The next scene was the interviews. The daughter saw all of the tribute’s interviews. The daughter saw her mother in a red dress that is engulfed in tounges of fire. Fire was indeed part of the costume, the daughter thought. Her mother spun around, making fire dance around her dress. The man with the blue hair who sat beside her started to talk about her score.
“E-le-ven”, the man with the blue hair had said. Then her father came next. The daughter wondered why her father asked the man with the blue hair if he smelt like roses. They took turns sniffing each other. The daughter wrinkled her nose. Then her father confessed his love to a girl that had came with him. Her mother. The daughter heard footsteps from behind, so she tried to grab the remote, but her mother’s voice stopped her from reaching it.
“Where did you get that?” her mother asked.
The daughter sighed before answering. “The attic”.
Her mother crossed her arms. “You know you’re not supposed to go in the attic”.
“I know. I’m sorry”, the daughter said.
“Why don’t you go get your father and we will watch it together?”
The daughter was shocked. She didn’t expect that kind of answer from her mother. So she nodded and went outside to where her father was. He was sketching; his blond hair dancing with the wild wind.
“Father”, the daughter said, “mother wants us to watch a tape together”.
Her father grabbed his sketchpad and went into the living room, where the daughter’s mother and the daughter’s little brother were already seated.
“What’s this sweetheart?” the father asked.
“It’s an old tape”, the mother replied.
So they watched every part of the tape. After they had finished, the daughter asked her parents about everything they had been through; from the Hunger Games, the Rebellion, the war, even to her parents’ friends and siblings. The parents answered everything patiently. The daughter’s parents were none other than the victors of the 74th Annual Hunger Games.
